KON-TIKI
Directors Espen Sandberg and Joachim Rønnings recreated the epic journey of Norwegian anthropologist and explorer Thor Heyerdahl and his four man crew, as they floated from South America to the Polynesian Islands on a wooden raft. Heyerdahl made the journey to prove his own scientific theory that the islands were inhabited from South America.
The original 8,000-kilometre trip took 101 days and was filmed by Heyerdal himself for a documentary, which won an Oscar in 1952. The new Kon-Tiki film was a huge success in Norway, and the Norwegian language version was nominated for several international awards, including Oscar and Golden Globe-nominations. An English language version was filmed simultaneously to be better suited for the international audience.
